Cowshed sponsors Wales women’s cricket team on South Africa tour

Many of our clients promote the benefits of sport. Many of our team are talented sports people, including a former Wales women’s youth cricket captain.

So, when campaign officer Charlotte asked us to sponsor her team’s kit for their upcoming tour in Cape Town, it was an immediate yes. Especially as the women’s team have to self-fund trips and tournaments.

This February, Charlotte and her team headed out to South Africa to prepare for the next season, train in a new climate and test their skills against different teams from across the world.

While on tour, Charlotte had the unforgettable experiences of safari, climbing Tabletop Mountain, seeing a beach full of penguins and passing on her sporting skills to disadvantaged school pupils.

Here are her highlights.

“I think the best moment for me was visiting Chris Hani High School located in Khayelitsha, a township on the outskirts of Cape Town,” Charlotte said.

“The school is funded by the Gary Kirsten Foundation where the project aims to give students the opportunity to develop in cricket.

“We were given the opportunity to use the facilities to train and prepare for our matches. However, what has really stuck with me was the chance to coach and play games with some of the much younger pupils at the school.

“Some of these students could not speak English but we came together through the language of sport.

“They were so grateful for our time and the donations we gave to the school. It was a day that will stay with me forever.”

Charlotte’s reflections on her tour to South Africa demonstrate the incredible opportunities that sport can give and our shared commitment to supporting women in sport.
