More Power to You: Taking Welsh Democracy to the People

On May 7th, 2026, Wales reaches a pivotal moment for its democracy.

With the Senedd expanding from 60 to 96 Members, the introduction of new constituencies and a new voting system, the 2026 election represents the most significant democratic change since devolution. But change only works if people feel confident enough to take part.

That’s why we created More Power to You / Mwy o Rym i Chi.

Working in partnership with Senedd Cymru, we designed and delivered a public engagement campaign that took democratic information out of formal settings and into everyday life – helping people understand why it matters, and how they can make their voice heard, by registering to vote, and turning up at the polling station.

The Challenge

How do you engage young people and first‑time voters – many of whom feel disconnected from politics – with information that can feel complex, abstract or intimidating?

Through our extensive campaign work with diverse audiences, we knew the answer wasn’t more leaflets or louder messaging.

It was connection.

Our Approach

We worked with Senedd Cymru to design and deliver an interactive, bilingual roadshow that met people where they already were. Instead of expecting audiences to engage with democracy in official buildings, we brought it into shopping centres and further education colleges across Wales.

Each stop was designed to feel informal, welcoming and relevant. At the centre of the experience was a bold, playful photobooth created by Cowshed – a simple but powerful way to start conversations, create shareable moments and open the door to meaningful discussions about voting and democratic change.

Alongside the creative experience, teams from Senedd Cymru and The Electoral Commission were on hand to explain the new voting system, answer questions and help people register to vote there and then.

Delivery on the Ground

We tailored each location to its audience, with a strong focus on young people, students and first-time voters.

The roadshow visited:

· Wrexham

· Bridgend

· Cardiff

· Coleg Menai

· Coleg Sir Benfro

· Coleg y Cymoedd

To extend the campaign beyond physical spaces, we worked with Welsh content creators and influencers to amplify the activity online – embedding the campaign firmly in Welsh culture and reaching audiences far beyond the roadshow itself.

The Impact

Across the roadshow, the results were clear:

  • We had over 5,600 meaningful conversations with people about voting, democratic change and why participation matters
  • We welcomed more than 2,200 people into the photobooth experience, using creativity to spark engagement
  • We gave out 600 merchandise packs, each packed with information to support further learning
  • We helped 109 people register to vote on the spot, turning curiosity into action

But the true impact lay behind the numbers. We met young people who discovered they were eligible to vote, understood the system for the first time, and left feeling confident that their voice counts.

The Outcome

More Power to You demonstrated that when public affairs and civic information are delivered creatively, positively and in the right environments, people respond.

By framing voter registration as empowering rather than intimidating, the roadshow helped turn awareness into action – ensuring more voices are informed, confident and ready to be heard at the ballot box.

This roadshow is one element of a wider integrated public engagement campaign designed and delivered by Cowshed in partnership with Senedd Cymru. We’ll be sharing more about the impact of the full campaign in the weeks to come, but for now, the message is simple: Make Your Mark – vote on 7 May.
